The sun shone on our Bath Centre last Sunday as 55 fantastic walkers completed our 20th Birthday Sponsored Walk through the Two Tunnels. It was amazing to see such a range of people walking, including some singers from the Jenny Peplow choir (who performed a fundraising concert for us just a few weeks ago!) and 9 year old Jack, who was eager to get going right away. After a welcome from Claire and Janine, the walkers set off at 11am, with smiles all round and even a few dogs!
Thanks to the fabulous weather, many of our walkers completed the full 9 mile route, only stopping midway for a pub lunch or a picnic –although Steve was on hand with the minibus for any carers that just wanted to complete the 4.5mile walk. Back at the centre, our walkers were rewarded for their time and effort with cream teas and mocktails, provided by our Chair of Trustees Jill Tremellen.
The walk was a wonderful event and we’re so thankful to all of those who walked to raise money for our centre – from all your sponsorship, we’re set to raise over £3000 for carers in BANES! This is an amazing result and will help us to support local carers. We’d like to thank all the volunteers that helped on the day, as well as Minuteman Press for generously sponsoring the event.
This walk also marked the beginning of our inaugural Wellbeing Festival, taking place from 5th-17th June. In conjunction with carers week, we’re offering a range of activities and breaks for carers to improve their wellbeing, including simple exercises to boost your health, a tour round the Victoria Art Gallery, and some welly planting in our garden to help our carers unleash their creative side! Today (Wednesday) we’ve got a pamper day, treating our carers to a range of massages, reflexology and even some face yoga!
If you’re a carer wanting to take part in our wellbeing festival then it’s not too late to join in! Call us on 01761 430930 for more information.
