Our green-fingered gardening team

Our fab garden volunteers!

Our fabulous Garden Volunteers!

In 2014, the Carers’ Centre was generously donated a garden from the One Show. 18 months on, the garden looks as fresh and vibrant as ever, thanks to our wonderful team of garden volunteers. The garden volunteers meet every Thursday morning to water plants, weed flower beds and ensure the garden looks inviting for carers, staff and professionals visiting the centre.

We’re thrilled to announce that the group is now being led by John Tucker, a gardening guru, who has led many gardening breaks at our Centre. John will guide gardeners through the necessary jobs and provide expert advice on how best to do the work. He has many years of experience as a gardener and deputy manager of Prior Park Garden Centre so he really knows his stuff!

Our garden provides a place of peace for carers, who often struggle to find time to relax from their caring role. Being part of creating this space is gratifying for all who take part and we even awarded the gardeners with a ‘Volunteer Team of the Year’ award during our Celebrating Carers ceremony in October.

John’s hoping to create a regular team of 6-8 people willing to lend a hand and help maintain our beautiful garden. The group provides friendship, relaxation and of course a cup of tea after the hard work! No gardening experience is needed before you join, so if you’re feeling green-fingered then why not join them? The next session is on 9th June – you can pop in at any time to meet John, experience life as a garden volunteer, and of course have a cup of tea with us!
